Project Spotlight: Microsoft Methane Leak Detection Project
Blue Raster developed an end-to-end workflow for Microsoft to detect methane using a combination of ESA Sentinel satellite data and Ball Sensors data from aerial surveys. The solution leveraged Azure Event Grid, Blob Storage, and application functions to download, process, and analyze the data efficiently.
Processed outputs included Map Tiles hosted in Blob Storage, Cloud Optimized GeoTIFFs, and KMZ files, which were automatically loaded into ArcGIS Image Services for display. Ball sensor data was also stored in Azure Blob Storage and batch processed alongside satellite data.
Final results were delivered through Power BI dashboards and ArcGIS Enterprise Image Services, which were published as interactive maps in ArcGIS Maps for Power BI. This integrated workflow enabled Microsoft to visualize methane data in near real time, combining geospatial and sensor data for actionable insights.
