Project Spotlight: The Nature Conservancy StoryMaps

Blue Raster partnered with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) to develop immersive ArcGIS StoryMaps that highlight TNC’s Freshwater Community-Led Conservation Program across Africa and Latin America. These StoryMaps communicate the work of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in protecting critical freshwater ecosystems, blending interactive maps, rich media, and multilingual narratives to engage audiences and convey the ecological and cultural importance of these regions.

The platform enables TNC to visually demonstrate conservation initiatives, share community-led successes, and foster understanding and support for sustainable management of freshwater habitats.

How We Helped

  • Designed and developed interactive ArcGIS StoryMaps featuring freshwater ecosystems and community conservation initiatives

  • Integrated maps, high-resolution images, audio soundscapes, and graphics to create engaging, immersive experiences

  • Published StoryMaps in multiple languages including English, African French, Latin American Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese

  • Highlighted TNC partnerships with Indigenous Peoples and local communities across Africa and Latin America

  • Enabled users to explore geospatial context and understand connections between habitats, communities, and conservation efforts

  • Provided a platform for TNC to communicate program impacts, raise awareness, and foster stakeholder engagement

Upper San Pedro Web-Based Hydrologic Information Portal

Blue Raster partnered with the Upper San Pedro Partnership, a collaborative group of federal and state agencies, nonprofits, and local stakeholders, to develop the Web-Based Hydrologic Information Portal (WHIP). The portal provides communities and decision-makers with an interactive platform to monitor environmental changes in the Upper San Pedro River Basin, combining decades of research, real-time data, and historical hydrologic datasets.

We developed an intuitive web interface that makes complex environmental data accessible and actionable. The portal features interactive maps, real-time and historical groundwater and precipitation data, vegetation and land use trends, environmental and administrative overlays, and export-ready reporting capabilities. These tools allow users including policymakers, researchers, and the public to explore the basin’s hydrology, monitor trends, and support planning, conservation, and compliance efforts.

How We Helped

  • Designed and implemented a custom application for interactive hydrologic monitoring

  • Integrated decades of groundwater, precipitation, vegetation, and land use datasets into a single platform

  • Enabled real-time and historical data tracking for environmental and hydrologic conditions

  • Created a public-facing, mobile-friendly interface requiring no login for outreach and engagement

  • Built export-ready capabilities for reporting, grant writing, and data analysis

  • Supported planning and compliance by overlaying environmental and administrative boundaries for informed decision-making
