Strengthening Multi-Hazard Risk Modeling: How Blue Raster Helped AIWEX Build a More Reliable Geospatial Platform

As organizations increasingly rely on spatial data to assess risk, the ability to accurately model hazard exposure has become essential. Maintaining reliable and scalable analytical workflows is critical for firms operating in complex, multi-hazard environments.

AIWEX Inc., a risk modeling firm, found that as their hazard models expanded and integrated new data sources, it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep spatial datasets, analytical logic, and underlying workflows accurate and reproducible. Blue Raster partnered with AIWEX to expand the functionality of their geospatial platform across a wide range of scenarios, including coastal storms, hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, and other weather-related events.

Creating a Reliable Environment for Current and Future Risk Analysis

Blue Raster worked closely with AIWEX to enhance its geospatial platform, supporting several key activities to strengthen their models.

Data Organization and Validation

Our team began by reorganizing AIWEX's GIS environment to create a scalable analytical foundation that was easier to maintain. Key datasets were uploaded, validated, and standardized to ensure consistency across workflows and support reliable hazard modeling as the platform continued to evolve. In parallel, Blue Raster reviewed connections to trusted, authoritative data sources, including ArcGIS Living Atlas layers for earthquake, hurricane, and wildfire risk.

Hazard Data Development

To support coastal storm modeling, Blue Raster digitized and mapped storm zone polygons based on client-provided reference materials. These maps now serve as the foundation for accurate exposure analysis across coastal geographies.

Reconstructing Spatial Analysis Workflows

We also rebuilt and tested new, complex spatial query logic. These analyses form the backbone of AIWEX's risk assessment capabilities, giving the platform the ability to:

  • Analyze proximity to hurricane paths and weather stations
  • Identify intersections with wildfire burn areas and earthquake epicenters
  • Evaluate multi-hazard exposure across geographic regions

A Stronger Foundation for Risk Modeling

Through this partnership, AIWEX moved from fragmented, unreliable workflows to an authoritative geospatial system built to grow with them. AIWEX now has:

  • A reestablished, trusted GIS foundation for multi-hazard risk modeling that can incorporate new hazard datasets and evolving client requirements
  • Improved organization and reliability of critical spatial datasets within ArcGIS Online
  • Validated, repeatable analytical workflows that support consistent risk assessments

Why It Matters

By improving the reliability, consistency, and scalability of their geospatial platform, AIWEX can now deliver more accurate, defensible risk models and adapt more effectively as new hazards, data sources, and client requirements emerge.
